FACTS speak for themselves!
What Is Colorectal Cancer?
It’s called “colorectal cancer” because it is cancer that starts in the colon or the rectum, both of which make up the large intestine. But broken down, it’s colon cancer vs. rectal cancer because:
Colon cancer is cancer that begins in any part of the colon (ascending, transverse, descending, or sigmoid).
Rectal cancer is cancer that begins in the rectum, which is downstream from the colon.
Colorectal cancer is when a tumor is found at the junction of the sigmoid colon and rectum: Then it may be classified as “colorectal cancer.” This term is also used to describe both colon and rectal cancers.
